CHAPTER 8: You have to trust me

Shivaay and Anika were sitting in Shivaay’s cabin in the Oberoi Industries Office…. She looked around the room…. There were simple shades of blue, grey and some white that lit up the interiors…. Two walls had glass panels giving an overview to the great city of Mumbai…. He had a photo frame kept on the table, it had him with his brothers and sister…. She could see a slight smile on his face which she had witnessed only in that photo and never ever in their few meetings…. Maybe because he was with the people he loved the most…. The people who meant the world to him…. She looked more around the cabin…. She had learnt over the past years that a person’s working environment tells a lot about the person and their thinking, their behavior…. The colours around suggested that he did not like bright colours in his office interiors…. But he did like bright colours when he had to choose his attires…. She thought looking at his red suit…. She saw a painting at the wall behind his chair, a masterpiece by his brother Omkara she concluded seeing Om’s signature…. She was keenly observing the room…. The room had simple yet elegant interiors perfectly matching the man that ruled not only this office but most of the business world…. Shivaay Singh Oberoi is a man with great taste she thought…. Working with him was going to be something different….

Shivaay was reading a file in his hand while Anika waited for him to finish his work and they could start their research on the case…. Shivaay’s attention was hardly on the file as he noticed how she was looking around the room keenly observing her surroundings…. His attention had been diverted to her from his file…. He saw how she was changing her expressions as she looked around the room…. Was she analyzing his taste in colours and interiors…. He could see a slight smile on her face when she looked out from the glass panels…. So she did like the view from his cabin…. He immediately stopped his mind from processing unnecessary details and looked back at the file…. He was not supposed to be doing all this with the mess his life had become in the last two days….

There was silence in the cabin as none of them spoke…. There was a knock and they looked at the door…. A man around Rudra’s age entered and looked at Shivaay…. Anika looked at him confused not recognizing him….

Shivaay: Anika, he is Ranbir, my personal assistant and my most trusted employee, he would help us in the works related to the case.

Ranbir looked at Anika and passed a smile, she smiled back,

Ranbir: Hello ma’am, you can give me any work you want, I’ll handle everything.

Shivaay was about to say something when there was another knock…. Shivaay signed Ranbir and he opened the door…. A girl in her twenties entered and looked at Anika…. Anika smiled seeing her…. Shivaay and Ranbir looked on….

Girl: Sorry yaar, I got late, actually I got lost in this huge building.

Anika: It is okay Prachi and Shivaay, she is my assistant cum best friend, she will assist us.

Prachi looked at Shivaay and Ranbir and smiled…. Ranbir smiled back while Shivaay just nodded at her…. She looked back at Anika and Anika gave her an understanding nod…. Shivaay saw their little eye conversation but remained quiet…. Ranbir broke the silence as he handed some files to Shivaay….

Ranbir: Sir, this is all the information you wanted, it has everything about Tia ma’am.

Shivaay passed the files to Anika and Prachi and they started going through the files…. The girls settled on the couch…. Shivaay sat back in his chair while he signed

Ranbir to settle down…. Ranbir sat on the seat opposite Prachi…. The two of them waited for the girls to finish reading….

Anika: This is very basic information about her.

Prachi: We need more information about her personal life. She had been murdered and any murder requires a strong motive.

Anika: Why would someone want to kill her? Did she have any kind of enmity with someone?

Ranbir: Or maybe someone wants to take it back from Shivaay Sir or the Oberois? I mean the person may not have direct enmity with Tia ma’am.

Anika: You are right Ranbir, this can be the case. So Shivaay, do you have anyone in mind, I mean who can go to this level of murdering your fiancée to get back at you.

Shivaay: I have many enemies but someone killing Tia to get back at me, I don’t know if anyone can do that. I mean they would have targeted my family, or kidnap Tia but why kill her?

Prachi: This is also a valid point; it can be both ways, enmity with Tia or enmity with Oberois?

Anika: Or what about enmity with the Kapoors? Even they can have enemies who would want to get revenge.

Ranbir: The Kapoor family, I do not think so they would have enmity with anyone.

Shivaay: Yeah, I agree with Ranbir, the Kapoor family cannot have enmity with anyone who would do this to Tia.

Prachi: Then we have to find out more about Tia’s personal life, maybe we get some clues.

Ranbir: I’ll get our sources to find the required information.

Prachi: Even we’ll get our sources to get any other information.

Anika: Okay then, you both go and gather the required information. We’ll think of the other aspects till then.

Prachi and Ranbir nodded and left the room…. Anika turned to Shivaay and saw him lost somewhere….

Anika: So Shivaay, will you tell me what are you hiding?

Shivaay looked at her surprised…. Could she read his mind…. How did she know that he was hiding something….

Shivaay: I am not hiding anything, why will I hide anything?

Anika: Please Shivaay, I have been a lawyer for years and I know when my client hides something from me. I could see it Shivaay, the change in your expressions when we talked about the enemies of Kapoors. What is it Shivaay?

Shivaay: There is nothing like what you are thinking Anika.

Anika: Shivaay, if you only will hide matters from me, how will I help you. You have to trust me Shivaay, only then we can get through this.

Shivaay looked at her as she spoke the last sentence…. Anika also realized that she said a little too much…. She wanted Shivaay to trust her but maybe she could have said it in a different way…. Shivaay looked at her while Anika looked the other side….

Anika: I mean if my client doesn’t trust me, how will I solve the case?

Shivaay: I have an important meeting now. You wait here till Ranbir and Prachi come back.

Anika: Shivaay….

Shivaay: I am busy, we’ll talk later.

He did not wait for Anika to say anything and left the room…. Anika called his name but he had already left the room…. Why was he doing this…. If he did not tell her everything then how will she help him…. She was right that he definitely needed to learn a few things…. And she would teach him that…. But first she had to find out what he was hiding…. It was definitely something to do with the Kapoors…. She took out her phone and dialed a number…. She instructed the person to find some information and give it to her as soon as possible….

Anika: What do you think Shivaay, if you don’t tell me I’ll not know? I have my own ways.

First day at work and she was already irritated by his behavior…. How was she going to survive till the case was solved…. She prayed to her Shiv Ji to give some brains to Shivaay and make her work easier…. If this continued like this, either of them was going to go mad…. She sighed and sat back on the sofa reading the other files promising herself to never ever take up another high profile case…. She can never handle another rich, rude and arrogant man ever….

Ranbir finished his call to the man to find about Tia and her personal life…. He looked around and saw Prachi looking outside…. He walked to her…. She felt someone near her and looked to her side…. She saw Ranbir….

Ranbir: I hope we can find more detailed information about Tia ma’am.

Prachi: Hopefully, that happens, the information is really important for the case.

Ranbir: I do not understand why someone would want to kill her. Whatever I have known about her, she did not seem like someone who would have enemies wanting to kill her.
She was irritating at times but she was not that bad to be killed like this.

Prachi: Well I do not know much about her, but even I feel that she was not the one to have enemies. Whatever I have known about her she seemed to be away from controversies.

Ranbir: Whatever happens I do not want Shivaay Sir or the family to face any problem. I know how much stressed they would be after all this.

Prachi: Do not worry, we all will work together and get through this. Trust me Anika is a very good lawyer and I have seen her working, she will definitely get Shivaay Sir out of this mess.

Prachi smiled at Ranbir assuring him that everything would be fine…. Ranbir smiled back at her something in her smile did assure him…. They both talked as they walked back to the cabin….

CHAPTER 9: A helping hand

Gauri was sitting on the bench in the hotel lawn…. The workers were removing the decorations and her team guiding them…. This was the place that was going to fulfill the biggest project her company had received…. This place was going to fulfill her dream…. She had worked day and night to make this the best wedding and the most beautiful day for the Oberois and Kapoors…. She had earned so much appreciation from everyone from the family for her work…. They had enjoyed so much through all the various functions…. Even the great Shivaay Singh Oberoi had complimented her choice…. A very rare instance when he complimented someone and their work…. She was so happy…. Her team was working hard and she did not wish to let their efforts go in vain so she kept a check on everything…. And when finally the day had arrived…. What was she doing…. Supervising her team to take back everything…. All their efforts had paid nothing to them…. She had planned so much for the company’s future and decided to give bonus to her employees…. But now nothing seemed to be happening according to her plans…. Everything had come to a halt the minute she had seen Tia lying there in a pool of blood…. That horrific scene flashed in front of her every time she closed her eyes…. Why was she the first one to witness this…. Why did her jhumka fall there…. Why did she become one of the suspects…. What would happen to her dreams…. What if this affects her work and clients stop trusting her…. What if her employees leave because they think that she is a murderer…. No…. This could not happen…. She could not let her dream get devastated…. She could not let things slip from her hands….

She was lost in her thoughts when she felt a hand on her shoulder…. She looked at the hand and then at the owner of the hand…. She saw Soumya standing there looking at her with a worried face…. After a long time she had seen a worry for her in someone’s eyes…. Soumya had joined just three months back and yet Gauri had liked her work so much that she had asked Soumya to assist her in this very important project…. What would Soumya say to her…. Did she also doubt her…. Thoughts like this made Gauri more worried…. She could not stop herself from thinking all this….

Soumya: Ma’am, please do not stress yourself so much. Everything will become fine; we all will get through this together.

Gauri looked at her surprised…. Soumya did not know her well yet she believed her and came here to lift her moral…. She was happy to get people like Soumya in her company and her life…. Soumya passed a smile to her and she smiled back…. Gauri gestured her to sit beside her…. Soumya sat quietly…. There were minutes of silence after which Gauri spoke….

Gauri: We plan so much in life and yet life changes all our plans and does what she has planned.

Soumya: That is why it is said that life is so unpredictable. We do not know what will happen the next moment.

Gauri: We had come here to organize a wedding and see, what we are doing now. I had thought that this would take our company to the top but….

Soumya: Ma’am please don’t think like this. I am sure one day our company will be on the top, we all will work hard to reach there.

Gauri: Honestly speaking Soumya, I do not know if this company would run also or not. Clients, employees and people would be thinking that the owner is a murderer.

Soumya: No ma’am, no one will think like this. We all know you very well, and we all trust you.

Gauri: Thank you Soumya for saying this but you may trust me, but what about the others. Soon the media will know everything and then our company’s name will be dragged in all controversies. What will we do then?

Soumya: Then let us prove them that you are innocent and that you did not do any crime.

Gauri looked at her surprised…. She could see trust and determination in Soumya’s eyes…. She would really do anything to prove her innocent…. Soumya was very sure when she said those words to her boss…. She did not get much time to learn how Gauri was but whatever she had known from her colleagues she knew that this company was Gauri’s dream come true and that she had worked day and night to make it true…. She had worked with her throughout this wedding and had herself seen how much Gauri valued her work and everyone’s efforts…. Gauri may scold them many a times but she was also very kind and helpful…. She trusted her a lot just like Gauri trusted her employees…. She would not let this dream of hers collapse…. The company’s name and reputation was at stake and she would not back down from supporting her boss…. This was the time when they had to be her strength….

Gauri: I don’t know what to say. Thank you so much Soumya.

Soumya: Ma’am, this is my duty, I am sure even you would have done the same for any of us.

Gauri: Di….

Soumya: I did not understand ma’am.

Gauri: I mean don’t call me ma’am, call me Di. Whatever you said and the trust you have on me, it feels like my sister is talking to me, so from now on you will call me Di.

Soumya: But how I can call you Di, I mean….

Gauri: It is my order.

Gauri smiled at her and she smiled back….

Soumya: Okay Di. Now we have an important task to do, we have to do something to find who killed Tia ma’am.

Gauri: But what will we do, the police are already investigating and Shivaay Sir even arranged a lawyer to solve the case.

Soumya: Police will do their work according to their way, and Shivaay sir will do things only to save his family. In both ways, no one will help us; we only have to do something for ourselves.

Gauri: You are right, but where do we start? We know nothing, why would someone kill Tia ma’am?

Soumya: For that first we have to know about her life, her past, present, whatever we can get.

Gauri: How will we find that, if we ask her family or the Oberois, no one will tell us anything?

Soumya gave a smile…. Gauri looked at her confused…. Why was Soumya smiling…. She thought to herself….

Gauri: Why are you smiling like this?

Soumya: Actually, I know some hacking so we can gather some information about her.

Gauri: You know hacking, but how?

Soumya: I learnt some basics while I was in college. We can do some research about her, maybe we will get some clues.

Gauri: Then let us start after everything is wrapped up here.

Soumya: Okay.

They looked at each other…. Passed a smile and resumed their works…. They were not sisters by blood but they had become sisters by heart…. Relations do not need to be made by blood but can be made by emotions and feelings…. All you need is some love, some care, some trust and some affection…. When you let the other person feel safe and secure with you, then great bonds are formed…. Bonds those are unbreakable…. Soumya and Gauri had also started a journey that was going to bring many changes in their lives….

They both were unaware of the fact that someone had heard their entire conversation…. Rudra had come to check up the work in the lawn when he saw Gauri and Soumya discussing something…. He thought to ask Gauri about the work when he heard their talk…. He did not want to disturb them and after they walked away, he too walked back to his room…. He was thinking about what Soumya had said about the investigation…. She was right the police would do work according to their ways and his Bhaiya would only try and defend their family name and reputation…. But who would help Gauri and Soumya…. Soumya was right; they had to do something to save their company name….
He was thinking if they would be able to do anything…. Should he help them…. But why will they accept his help…. He belonged to the family that did not go well with many people…. Although Oberois was a big name, he knew the reality too…. People who were good to them were only because of their own profits…. No one actually cared about them…. All that was known to the world was a façade…. Behind that were truths that no one wanted to disclose…. Although he never showed that he cared or understood all this, but deep down even he knew the false façade his family had been wearing for years…. He also knew that there were secrets kept hidden in his family…. They were an ideal family to the world but inside the four walls of the house they lived a completely different life…. The younger generation had immense love and care for each other…. The elders were completely opposite of them…. What if this murder of Tia would break that facade and as the investigation would precede their family secrets would come to the open…. His Shivaay Bhaiya had worked day and night to keep up the family name and keep their reputation intact…. He could not let his Bhaiya’s hard work go in vain…. He had to do something and he had thought what he would do…. He walked out of his room and back to the lawn….

Soumya and Gauri were busy explaining the workers when Rudra came there…. He walked up to Soumya and she was surprised to see him….

Soumya: Sir, you here, do you need any help?

Rudra: I need to talk to you.

Before Soumya could say anything…. Rudra held her hand and walked to the other side…. Soumya was shocked by his behavior…. Gauri also saw this and was surprised…. She was about to interfere but Soumya gestured her that she would handle…. Rudra walked ahead Soumya did not know how to get her out of his hold…. As they walked people around them talked to each other seeing them…. Rudra did not pay attention to them while Soumya felt embarrassed….

CHAPTER 14: Secrets

Mishti saw Abir and Ishana talking to each other for some time…. She could not hear what they were talking about but seeing them with each other holding hands she felt hurt…. A lone tear escaped from her eyes and she quickly turned away and wiped the tears that were flowing from her eyes…. She had to stop these tears…. They were not allowed to flow…. They were not allowed to make her feel the pain in her heart…. They were not allowed to make her feel weak…. She could not fall weak…. She knew that one day this would happen…. She knew that he would move on…. She knew it would hurt her but she never knew that it would hurt so much…. She could feel everything breaking inside her…. She wiped her tears harshly and composed herself…. She turned to take one last look at them when she saw them walking away…. She saw Ishana going away while Abir excused himself to attend a call…. She did not understand why she was doing it but she needed to talk to Abir…. She controlled her emotions and walked towards him….
Abir finished his call and turned around…. He was surprised to see Mishti standing behind him…. He did not wish to talk to her and moved to go but Mishti was also not going to let him go…. She held his hand firmly and he stopped to look at her…. There was a moment of silence as they looked at each other…. They lost in each other’s eyes…. Abir broke the trance and Mishti too came out of her thoughts…. She left his hand and they moved back….

Abir: What do you want?

Mishti: Nothing, I just want to talk to you.

Abir: And I do not want to talk.

Mishti: Abir, why do you always have to argue with me, I just want to talk, you can keep your anger aside for once and listen to me.

Abir: No, I cannot keep my anger aside, and also I do not have any interest in arguing with you.

Mishti: Abir, please…. What I have done that you are behaving like this with me?

Abir: Really, you do not know what you have done? I think you have a very weak memory then.

Mishti: That is our past Abir, for God’s sake, just get over it.

Mishti realized that she had said something she did not intend to say…. Also her voice was raised…. She was about to apologize but Abir lost his cool…. He held her by the shoulders and pinned her to the wall…. Mishti was shocked by this sudden movement…. She could feel his hands pressing her shoulders hard…. The pain caused a tear to flow down her cheek…. Abir’s eyes reflected intense rage and hatred…. He did not pay any attention to her tears….

Abir: Dare you say anything like this again. You could get over with it easily because you never valued our relationship but I did, I actually cared for it. I am not selfish like you that I can get over it just like that.

Mishti: Abir, you are hurting me, please leave me.

Abir: You are also hurting me. Whenever I see you all I can think is about your betrayal, you have used me and played with my emotions. You deserve this pain; you have earned it with your selfish nature.

Mishti looked at him and hearing his last statement she could not take it anymore…. With all her force she pushed him away…. He was startled by the sudden push…. Before he could react a slap landed on his face…. He was shocked seeing Mishti’s anger…. He could not say anything when he saw the anger and rage rising in her eyes….

Mishti: Don’t you dare ever question my love for you, I know that I have hurt you with my decisions but that does not give you any right to question my love. And yes, you are right I am selfish, so you better stay away from me.

She quickly wiped her tears and walked away…. Abir was looking at her retreating figure in shock….

Rudra was sitting in Gauri’s cabin…. They had decided to work here to avoid any unnecessary questions from the Oberois or the police…. Soumya had gone to get her laptop while Gauri excused herself to make a few calls…. Rudra was busy checking the interiors of the office…. The place was full of colours just like Gauri’s cheerful nature…. In the past few days he had become a good friend with her…. He was really impressed by her creativity and smartness…. The wedding would have been her best work till date if that unfortunate incident had not happened…. Although he did not want to see his Bhaiya getting married to Tia for a business deal, he never had anything against Tia…. She was very good with his family, she was irritating at times but she was not a bad person…. Why would someone kill her…. The question was revolving in almost everyone’s mind…. Rudra was brought out of his thoughts by the opening of the door…. He looked at the door and saw Soumya and Gauri entering…. The three of them settled on the sofas in the cabin…. Soumya opened her laptop….

Soumya: So, where do we start?

Gauri: If we have to find about Tia’s killer, then first we need to know about Tia. Until and unless we do not know about her, we cannot decide where to proceed.

Rudra: Correct and the best way to know about a person is to check their social media.

Soumya: But she in a known personality how will her social media help us?

Rudra: Not her feed but maybe her private messages can help us.

Gauri: But how will we find her private messages, we do not have any access to her personal information.

Rudra: Well I heard that someone knows hacking.

Soumya and Gauri looked at him surprised while Rudra raised his eye-brows looking at Soumya…. The girls remembered that Rudra had heard their conversation…. Soumya did not say anything and just opened Tia’s instagram account…. She opened some other tabs and typed a few things here and there…. Rudra and Gauri were looking at her confused not understanding what she was doing…. They were just looking at the screen…. After about half an hour Soumya smiled as she opened Tia’s messages…. Rudra and Gauri looked at each other surprised and then at the screen….

Soumya: So, here it is guys.

Rudra: You are amazing; you should have been a detective.

Gauri: Seriously Soumya, how come you decided to be an event planner, you deserve some other job.

Soumya: Okay enough guys, we’ll decide my profession later, first let us do our work.

They looked at the screen attentively as Rudra scrolled through her messages…. There were many casual chats mostly her friends, Romi and some relatives…. Rudra was scrolling casually when a name caught Gauri’s attention…. She asked Rudra to stop scrolling and they all looked at the name “Dushyant Rana” …. They looked at each other surprised and confused….

Gauri: Isn’t he the younger son of Vikram Rana, I have heard about him in business news.

Rudra: Yes, but why Tia would talk to him, everyone knows about the rivalry of Oberois and Ranas, Shivaay Bhaiya toh doesn’t like their mention also in our house.

Soumya: Well the answers are in her messages, let us check them.

Soumya opened the messages…. They started reading Tia and Dushyant’s chats…. The messages shocked them to the core…. They looked at each other to find them the same shock on each other’s face….

Dushyant: Tia, I do not at all like all this…. Why are you getting married to that Shivaay…. I just hate him….

Tia: Sorry baby, but what can I do…. I have to do it for Mom…. You know how she is…. Always dominating….

Dushyant: I wish we could do something about her….

Tia: I wish the same…. I am doing all this because I do not want Romi to suffer unnecessarily…. Once this wedding happens…. I’ll just save my sister from Mom….

There were several other messages like this…. Soumya scrolled down slowly as the three of them read each and every word carefully…. They were shocked but the next message just shocked them to the core…. They could not believe what they had read….

Tia: I don’t understand why Mom is like this…. I just hate her sometimes….

Dushyant: Looks like my wife is really upset today…. Well if she wants I can change her mood….

Tia: Yes please…. I really want my husband near me at this time….

Dushyant: As you wish…. Get ready; I’ll pick you in an hour….

Soumya kept the laptop on the table…. They needed some time to process and accept this new truth that had been discovered…. Not only was Tia in love with Dushyant but they were married also…. Tia was lying to Shivaay and the Oberoi family….

Gauri: Tia is such a liar and cheater, she is already married still she was getting married to Shivaay Sir.

Soumya: I never thought that she was someone like this, all these days she was showing fake love and concern for everybody.

Gauri: Why wouldn’t she after all marrying Shivaay Sir would bring so many benefits in her life, such a money-minded person.

Gauri and Soumya realized that Rudra was not saying anything…. They looked at him and saw him lost somewhere…. Gauri signed Soumya to talk to him…. Soumya nodded and kept her hand on Rudra’s shoulder…. Rudra was brought back to the world by her touch…. He turned to look at her…. She was looking at him concerned….

Rudra: We’ll talk tomorrow, I should get going now.

Before Soumya or Gauri could stop him he left the room…. The girls looked at each other understanding that he needed some time after all it was about his family….

Rudra was sitting in his car in the parking lot…. Many thoughts were going on in his mind…. If Tia was already married why did she agree to marry his Bhaiya…. Why was her marriage with Dushyant Rana a secret…. They both belonged to rich and well-known families then how could no one know about their relation…. Were the Ranas aware of Dushyant being married to Tia…. Or was this a plan of the Ranas to defame the Oberois…. So many questions running in his mind…. He could not let his Bhaiya or anyone know about this…. He had to find everything related to Tia and her life…. He could not leave even the slightest detail…. Anything could be related to the case and could put his family in danger…. He had to be very careful….

Also many of you asked about Mishbir past, so I will make it clear the story for now will only concentrate on their present and the past will be revealed much later.

“Getting married? ” He asked with fire in eyes

Yes!!! She coldly replied

“When? “

Obviously when you’ll be taking rounds with Tia, I’ll be taking rounds with Vikram ” She replied wearing her shoes.

Then you’ll be called Mrs Vikram Aditay Thapar. Right? He futher interrogators while helping her fixing her shoes.

No!! I’ll be called Mrs Shivaay Singh Oberoi. She chuckles loudly passing by him.

I’m getting married to My lambu, you chotu so it’s obvious na I’ll be called Mrs VAT ” She proudly screams “

He fist his hand in anger and moved closed to her.

Doesn’t the first one sounds more attractive to hear ” Mrs SSO” He whispered husky against her ear

Whatever happened in past few hours it was not easy for all to cheer forgetting incidents happened with Anika and Thapar’s but yet wearing mask of happiness did the important post marriage rituals just for Tia sake specially Anika who had her own reasons to perform them shedding countless tears behind this fake smile.

Performing Ghar Pesvash ritual the young generation to lighten or say to make Anika forget that dreadful moment of life for sometime demanded to do other post wedding rituals.
